Who We Are.

Rory Dunphy - Managing Director

Rory is professional Geoscientist with over 20 years technical and management experience in the energy sector. During that time he has developed expertise in the planning and management of exploration projects, deep drilling projects, and new country entries.

Rory combines a deep technical understanding of geothermal with a broad skillset in economic analysis, operations, and data acquisition programme design.

Proven in diverse leadership roles, Rory has considerable experience in strategy development, organisational management, regulatory matters, HSE, and stakeholder engagement.

Active in the geothermal sector in Ireland since 2021, Rory played a key role in starting the Irish National Geothermal Summit and in designing the National Geothermal Database for the Geological Survey Ireland. He currently serves on the executive of the Geothermal Association of Ireland.

Lorraine Dodd - Director

Lorraine has a background in economics and spent nearly a decade in Human Resources within the energy sector. She has expertise in strategic planning, analytics, organisational design, and continuous improvement. As director of operations in Build Geothermal Limited she applies that expertise to manage projects and support client communications and reporting.

Doug Bearinger - Senior Technical Advisor

Doug is a highly experienced energy professional with track record of delivering practical solutions to develop some of the most challenging reservoirs in the world. He is an expert in Discrete Fracture Network (DFN) Modelling, which is a vital tool to understanding deep geothermal reservoirs in Ireland and Europe.

Dougs focus areas include natural fracture network characterisation, stimulated fracture network characterisation and modelling, fracture growth modelling,  geochemical fluid behaviour, and fluid clean-up modelling. Doug has worked on hydrothermal geothermal assessments in North America and Europe and combines his specialist skill set with a wealth of knowledge in geophysics and reservoir engineering.

He graduated in 1982 with BSc in Applied Earth Science-Geotechnical from the University of Waterloo.

Why We Exist.

Our goal is to build the geothermal sector in Ireland.

Geothermal is a clean, secure, and efficient means of renewable heating and cooling. Both deep geothermal (where heat is extracted from aquifers several kilometers beneath the surface) and Shallow Geothermal (where heat from the ground is efficiently upgraded by a Ground Source Heat Pump) are widely used in Europe for residential, commercial, and industrial heating and cooling, yet are underutilised in Ireland. Build Geothermal Limited will be part of the solution to this problem by enabling those unaware of the benefits of geothermal, or those who are hesitant to implement geothermal, to pursue projects.

Geothermal is a 100% Irish owned resource. It is a local renewable resource that can be used without installing unsightly or noisy above ground infrastructure. It is "always on" and not subject to supply or Co-efficient of Performance (COP) variation as the weather changes. Geothermal in Ireland doesn't require large multinational companies to develop it, just the drive and expertise to help organisations investing in renewable heating & cooling make it happen. That is where we come in.

How We Work.

We deliver solutions, not reports.

We provide geothermal consulting and advisory services tailored to clients specific needs. In addition to our in-house expertise we can tap into a global network of specialist consultants to offer a broad range of solutions in a cost-effective manner. As an SME, Build Geothermal Limited focuses on quality, not quantity of projects. Our focus is simply to take on work where we can deliver value.
